A Sulute To Minister Gerard Brooks

Greetings to all my readers and well wishers, I was sitting here thinking about what or who will I write about for my next blog and one of my friends that I mentor to and one I met a number years back and since that time I have seen him grow and mature in God and as a man.

I speak about none other than a brother in Christ that somewhat reminds me of myself coming up in the church. The very first time I saw and met Gerard I sense that he had a calling on his life, sitting very attentive to what was going on throughout the service as I would often do myself coming up, Paying close attention to those who lead us in Worship, Praise and mostly the Word of God.

So it is that I notice about Minister Gerard Brooks, A singer that can inspire you to Worship the Lord, energize you to Praise our God, Just setting you up to receive the Word of the Lord. The Lord has blessed Minister Brooks to come into his own destiny. A saved and happily married young man (Angie Brooks) and 4 lovely children, I have had the pleasure in knowing Gerard for better than 15 years or more, and over the years we have bounded like natural brother. We share with each other in song, the word of God, Giving view points to each other concerning the Music Industry.

Minister Brooks is a member of the Second Timothy Missionary Baptist Church pastured by Rev. Dr. Wilbert Humphries on the east side of Detroit. So we are praying that God will continue to Bless, Lead and Direct Minister Brooks and order his footstep to be able to direct people to the Lord. And if you ever need someone that is energetic in Song and in the Word I highly recommend Min. Brooks and you can contact me for further information about him for ministry.

Minister Brooks thank you for allowing the Lord to use you for such a time as this, May the Lord continue to direct your footsteps and give you the desires of your heart, I salute you as a brother in Christ and a friend that has proven to be a true friend. I’m just a phone call away and never hesitate to call me if I can help you in any way possible. Double blessings to you my brother and friend.

Because Of His Grace, I Humbly Remain!

Are You Really Thankful For What You Ate Today?

Today I awoke to the sound of rain. Yes, I guess the rains were not fully over. It was just a little rained then it quickly subsided. Then I went downstairs to the ‘Cocina’ or ‘kitchen’ as we say in English. To see what there was to eat for breakfast. The cook who usually makes meals for us, but she has the mornings off because there are just a few volunteers here at the orphanage. The kids have their own cooks that make their meals.

As I went into the kitchen I put on some coffee. We have a cool Italian type coffee maker. You just put the coffee and water in it and place it on the stove. Then when it’s ready it shoots the hot water through the coffee grounds with a burping noise. That’s when you know its ready. I put the coffee into a thermal so others could have some, then I found some Quaker Oatmeal packs. I put on some hot water I had to boil it in a frying pan lol.. When the water was ready I poured it on the oatmeal that I had poured from the packs. Then took that and my coffee to the table outside to eat breakfast. I thanked God for the food, and then I began to drink my coffee and eat the oatmeal. After the second spoonful I looked down at my bowl and noticed little brown sticks floating in my oatmeal. I looked even closer and realized that they were not sticks at all they were actually insects or weevils. I immediately dumped out the bowl into a bucket we save for the hog food, and went into the pantry and found a closed box of Quaker. I then repeated the process and this time there were no extra guest in my bowl lol.

Some might have been grossed out by this story but every once in a while it’s probably going to happen here lol. The Kitchen here is open, the pantry is closed and able to be locked up.

After eating breakfast, then working on some other things. I went down to eat Lunch. It was ok, but wasn’t the best. After lunch we left to go to Santiago, D.R. Which is about 2 hours from here its the second largest city in the DR. We went there to go shopping at the grocery store for the volunteers. It was myself and Tom the Executive Director of Orphanage Outreach and the driver Pegero, who really knows how to drive on these crazy city streets. After doing a few errands we went to the Airport to pickup July, and Coco. July is a volunteer that will be staying for 2 years. She will be helping me with the ESL program and other things. Coco is the Director of OO here in the Dominican Republic.

On the way to Santiago I began to read my National Geographic. It was very interesting, because it talked about Haiti. Montecristi is just 30 minutes from the Haitian border. The picture I saw I had to put on my page to show you the shock I got when I began to read the article. The title read, “Poor Haitians Resort to Eating Dirt”. It was very troubling for me to hear about people, so desperate that they had to eat dirt to survive. ”Dirt Pies” to survive.

Coming from the U.S. I realize just how bless we are as a country. Both Haiti and the Dominican Republic share the island of Hispaniola. Haiti is located on west and the Dominican Republic to the right of the island. Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. The official Religion of Haiti is Voodoo. The United Nations Peace keeping mission is currently keeping the peace in Haiti. Also, there is severe flooding in Haiti because of the tropical storms, and hurricanes that have touched down there recently. Eight of their eleven provinces are currently flooded. If you will say a prayer for the people of Haiti, they really need help!

After learning more and more about Haiti and also seeing extreme needs before my own eyes. I began to thank the Lord for all of his blessings in my life. I also began to repent for my materialism, and for complaining. You know, a hungry person in Haiti would have eaten even the bowl of oatmeal that I poured in the hog’s bucket probably.

Are you thankful for what you had to eat today? Are you thankful for how blessed you are today?

A Mighty God We Serve

It’s with abundant Joy that I greet you in the name whereby men must be saved, The name of Jesus… Oh bless his name. I come to you today with gratefulness in my heart, for God is truly an awesome God. This is yet another day that the Lord has made. I am rejoicing and being glad in it. I invite you to do the same. Our God is a mighty awesome God! This day has been ordained just for you. What will you do with it?

I trust that all are doing well, as I am. For our God reigns and everything will be alright, We as citizens of the kingdom should take our claim in what God has declared unto us. In 1996 I wrote a song entitle “A Promise Is A Promise” When It Comes from the Lord! And I want to encourage you the people of God to Hold On, For he that will come shall come and he want tarry. Yes trial will come but as the saints of old would tell you, they only come to make you stronger. And I have come to the realization that I am standing on the Promises of God and don’t have to worry about anything for God will deliver according to his word.

So dry them tears, Broaden them shoulders and walk in your purpose as unto the Lord…Don’t get discourage, Don’t let no Devil cheat you out of your inheritance, God can’t lie, His word is his bond. Oh I feel a praise coming on, Oh bless the name of our God!

I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Psalm 27:13

Twinkie Clark wrote it best, My mind is Made Up, I on My Way Up, Going to Hold My Head Up, Going on with the Lord!

Be Bless and Celebrate What God has Given You for such a time as this!

A Child Is Born

Isaiah 9:6

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Oh what a joy in knowing that we have a True and Living God that was born unto us to meet our every need... Wonderful in all things, A Counselor, One in whom we can talk to and put all of our trust in, No hesitation about it A Mighty and Awesome God who is above all, Through us All, In Us All, It's In Him We Live, Move and have our Being and his name is Jesus!

And he is a Father for all that call upon him and those that do find everlasting Peace, Joy and Commitment! I pray that you and your family have a blessed and Wonderful Christmas as we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Bless the name of our God.

Just A Thought

The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace.
Romans 8:6

Word For The Week

Psalm 21 (New International Version)

For the director of music. A psalm of David

1 O LORD, the king rejoices in your strength.
How great is his joy in the victories you give!
2 You have granted him the desire of his heart
and have not withheld the request of his lips.
Selah

3 You welcomed him with rich blessings
and placed a crown of pure gold on his head.

4 He asked you for life, and you gave it to him—
length of days, for ever and ever.

5 Through the victories you gave, his glory is great;
you have bestowed on him splendor and majesty.

6 Surely you have granted him eternal blessings
and made him glad with the joy of your presence.

7 For the king trusts in the LORD;
through the unfailing love of the Most High
he will not be shaken.

8 Your hand will lay hold on all your enemies;
your right hand will seize your foes.

9 At the time of your appearing
you will make them like a fiery furnace.
In his wrath the LORD will swallow them up,
and his fire will consume them.

10 You will destroy their descendants from the earth,
their posterity from mankind.

11 Though they plot evil against you
and devise wicked schemes, they cannot succeed;

12 for you will make them turn their backs
when you aim at them with drawn bow.

13 Be exalted, O LORD, in your strength;
we will sing and praise your might.
